Sharp knives are not a luxury.

They are the difference between cooking and fighting your food.

The Oakstone Rolling Knife Sharpener Set brings any steel knife back to a proper edge. Set the knife on the magnetic base. Roll the sharpener along the blade. The angle is held for you.

Two angles, on purpose

  • 15 degrees for fine blades. Japanese knives, carbon steel, Damascus.
  • 20 degrees for robust blades. European chef's knives and everyday workhorses.

Two stages, real materials

  • 400 grit industrial diamond disc grinds a fresh edge.
  • 1000 grit ceramic disc removes the burr and hones the edge clean.

Built to sit on the bench, not hide in a drawer

Solid oak and stainless steel. Triple-layered N50 magnets hold the blade at the exact angle, so you cannot get it wrong. The base doubles as a stand for the roller between uses.

What it works on

Any smooth-edged steel blade. Chef's knives, santokus, paring knives, pocket knives, fishing and utility knives. Tall blades and small blades both work, the base is designed for each.

Not for serrated blades or ceramic knives. If that honesty costs us a sale, so be it. It is the truth.

  • Man in a black t-shirt rolling the Oakstone sharpener along a knife

    1. Set the angle

Place the knife on the magnetic base. 15° for fine Japanese blades, 20° for European chef's knives. The magnets hold it there, so the angle never drifts.

  • Hand holding the Oakstone oak roller

    2. Roll the edge

Roll the 400 grit diamond disc along the blade to grind a fresh edge. Flip to the 1000 grit ceramic disc to hone it clean.

  • Slicing a tomato on a wooden board beside the Oakstone sharpener

    3. Slice

Test it on a tomato or a sheet of paper. A sharp edge glides through without pressure.

Watch it work

“Such an incredible knife sharpener! Very useful instructions provided, easy to use and I couldn’t believe how sharp my knives were when I did it. If you’re a chef or enjoy doing bbq (especially Brazilian style haha), I would definitely recommend this tool… I bet you won’t regret it once you cut a nice picanha with a clean and precise cut, without tearing the meat…
    Simply loved it! 😄”

Questions, answered

15° or 20°: which angle do I need?

  • 15°: a finer, sharper edge for Japanese-style knives, carbon steel and precision slicing.
  • 20°: a tougher edge for European chef's knives and heavy chopping.

Not sure? Most Western chef's knives are 20°. Our angle guide explains how to tell.

Which knives can I sharpen?

Any smooth-edged steel blade: chef's knives, santokus, paring knives, cleavers, pocket, hunting, fishing and camping knives.

Not suitable: serrated blades such as bread knives, ceramic knives and scissors.

How often should I sharpen?

When the knife stops slicing cleanly through a tomato skin. A few passes on the ceramic disc between full sharpens keeps the edge in shape for longer.

How fast is shipping, and what does it cost?

Shipping is free Australia-wide. We pack every order in Adelaide within 1 to 2 business days, and Australia Post delivers in 5 to 8 business days. You get tracking by email.

What if I change my mind?

Return it unused, in its original packaging, within 30 days of delivery. You cover return postage for change of mind. If anything is faulty, we cover it, as the Australian Consumer Law requires. See our refund policy.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the discs dry after use and brush filings off the diamond disc with a dry cloth. Do not soak the oak or put any part in the dishwasher. A drop of mineral oil on the wood once a season keeps it looking good.

Meet the founders

We built the sharpener we wanted at our own BBQ

We are two Brazilians who moved to Adelaide over a decade ago and found the Aussie BBQ felt just like home. The prep did not. Every weekend we fought blunt knives, and sharpening felt like a mystery. After burning through cheap sharpeners, we designed one that holds the angle for you. That became Oakstone.
