FAQs
Got questions? We got answers.
The Oakstone sharpener is the smartest way to sharpen your knives. It’s highly intuitive and brings quick results. Attach any metal knife to the magnetic knife sharpener and use the Oakstone rolling sharpener to sharpen any of your household or kitchen knife by gliding it along the edge of the blade.
15° Angle: Delivers a finer, ultra-sharp edge ideal for precision slicing and Japanese-style chef knives.
20° Angle: Creates a tougher, more durable edge perfect for Western-style blades and heavy-duty chopping.
Oakstone’s dual-angle sharpening guide lets you switch seamlessly, so you preserve your blade’s performance and extend its lifespan.
Diamond Disc (#400 grit): Aggressively restores dull blades, perfect for manual sharpening of high-hardness steels (including Damascus).
Ceramic Honing Disc (#1000 grit): Polishes and removes burrs, refining the edge to a mirror finish.
This two-step diamond & ceramic sharpening system ensures every stroke leaves your knife precise and polished.
Yes, our rolling knife sharpener works on most smooth-edged blades: kitchen knives, chef’s knives, cleavers, hunting knives, folding knives, and Damascus steel blades.
Not suitable: Serrated knives (e.g. bread knives) and ceramic blades (non-magnetic).
Absolutely. Oakstone’s magnetic guide holds the blade steady so you can hone either side or just one side for single-bevel Japanese knives. Choose your 15° or 20° setting and roll only the side you need.
Place your Oakstone sharpener on a stable surface or atop a cutting board to raise it to the blade’s height. Then sharpen as usual. Our manual knife honing tool adapts to any blade size.
First Sharpen: 2–6 minutes to establish a perfect 15° or 20° edge (up to 10 minutes for very hard Damascus).
Touch-Ups: 3–5 quick rolls per side each 2–4 weeks, depending on use. Regular knife honing keeps your kitchen knives laser-sharp.
Diamond is the hardest known material. With proper use, avoiding excessive pressure and moisture, the industrial diamond sharpening wheel lasts for years and rarely needs replacement.
Oakstone’s food-grade ceramic disc is designed for durability and precision. With normal use, 3/5 quick passes per sharpening session, you can expect the ceramic honing wheel to retain its fine grit for 1,000/2,000 sharpening cycles before showing wear. That equates to several years of home-cook maintenance.
Because ceramic is harder than steel, it resists glazing and maintains a smooth finish, so you’ll rarely need to replace it unless it suffers a hard impact or chip. Just wipe it clean and dry after each use to extend its lifespan.
Serrated knives (bread, scalloped edges) will damage the serrations.
Ceramic knives are non-magnetic and won’t secure to the guide.
Control & Safety: No high-speed motors or overheating, so you preserve more steel and avoid over-grinding.
Portability & Simplicity: No cords, no electricity. Sharpen anywhere, anytime.
Ritual & Precision: Our manual knife sharpener transforms sharpening into a mindful ritual, delivering a sharper, longer-lasting edge.
Yes. Any smooth-edged steel blade (camp knives, pocket blades) fits our magnetic guide. Perfect for home kitchens, barbecues, and even camping trips.
